More than 4,000 Santas ran in Liverpool today (Sunday 4th December 2005) in a record-breaking charity bid. Apparently organisers received 4,514 entries and were forced to turn hundreds away after running out of Santa suits. The current record for the largest such gathering was held by a rival event in Powys, Wales
.
The current record is held by Newtown with 3,455 – so we are way over that.
I was in the middle of it and managed to take some cracking photographs to mark such an important event in the run up to Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture award for 2008. Liverpool does it again. I even spotted a ‘Scouse Santa’. A harmless scouse stereotype.
