Santa dash to a £70,000 for the ECHO's Sunrise Fund

Category: Liverpool Dash — Kev @ 6:45 pm

ECHO readers who pounded the streets in Santa suits raised more than £70,000 for charity. But the volunteers are still waiting to find out if they were record-breakers. The Guinness Book of Records is still totting up the final numbers to see if the Liverpool race beat our closest rivals in Newtown, mid-Wales, in terms of the number of those who took part. They have already concluded the 3,915 turn-out put a similar race in Los Angeles in the shade. Final figures reveal that the amount of money raised by our charity racers for the ECHO’s Sunrise Fund has made it the most successful event yet. Kop legend Kenny Dalglish took part in the 5km dash alongside fellow ex-Anfield star Ian Rush. This year the fund is supporting the Marina Dalglish Appeal. Race organiser Alan Rothwell said:

Overall, it was the best yet. We more than doubled in size, which was fantastic, and the day itself went down an absolute storm. I have already received entry requests for this year’s dash and we are definitely looking at thousands more taking part.

Penny Woods, the ECHO’s Sunrise co-ordinator, also appealed for those who raised sponsorship to send it in. She said: “Let’s get it sorted so it can start funding the local charities we support sooner rather than later.”
