Liverpool’s very own ‘Santas Cause’ this year is to fend off two serious attempts on the city’s prestigious and hard earned World Record for the ‘Biggest Santa Gathering’ by Las Vegas and Milan.
Add new events in Cardiff and possibly Glasgow into the equation and it is quite apparent that Liverpool will have its work cut out to retain the title this year.
This is the fourth Liverpool Santa Dash and in that time the event has picked up the official Guinness Book of World Records status in 2005 with 3,921 Santas taking part and more than 5,500 took to the streets in 2006! Liverpool expects to attract around 7,000 entries this year creating an unreal spectacle in the city centre on Sunday, 2nd December. All the runners take on the 5K course in the city dressed as Father Christmas with NO EXCEPTIONS! There is also a 1K Mini Dash for under 12s and they also count toward the World Record as well as they too have to take part dressed as Santa!
Entries for this year are already available: www.runliverpool.org.uk I’m told by the organisers of Liverpool’s event that Las Vegas have20,000 Santa Suits on order!
There will also be some changes to the course for 2007.
