LIVERPOOL PROVING TO BE A BIG ATTRACTION FOR SANTAS ACROSS THE U.K.
The European Capital of Culture is proving to be as popular as the North Pole on December 24th in the run – up to Christmas with Liverpool’s annual Festive Fun Run bringing in Santas from far and wide.
The Liverpool Santa Dash is once again going head to head with Las Vegas in a bid to bring the World Record for the Largest Santa Gathering.
The furthest Santa so far will be travelling from Oslo and the remainder will be coming from destinations the length and breadth of the U.K.
The target this year will be to achieve 8,000 Santas in 2008 which will break the existing record of 7,269 held by Sin City!
With numbers on track for securing the record, Event Organiser Alan Rothwell said…” it just amazing to see so many people involved in this most spectacular event. It has grown in popularity since 2004 when just 2,000 Santas came from across Merseyside. Now we are heading for 8,000 – and the World Record – with people coming from all over.”
The 5K course runs through the city centre from the Liver Buildings to finish in front of the Town Hall at Castle Street and at 11.00am there is also a Mini Dash for under 12s which runs a shorter 1K course.
The Liverpool Santa Dash will this year be supporting the BBC Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust and CLIC Sargent and everyone taking part will be encouraged to raise a minimum of just £20 for the official event charities.
