Despite the best ever turnout in Liverpool over the last eight years the World Santa Challenge for 2011 has gone to Las Vegas who pulled together a huge crowd of 8,123 Santas at the Town Square Retail Park. Numbers were close all the way up to last weekend with both sides keeping in touch with progress either side of the Atlantic. The Great Santa Run in Las Vegas is staged the day before the Liverpool event as it acts partly as a warm up event for the Las Vegas Marathon which happens the following day.

Linda Smith, The Las Vegas Santa Run Coordinator said…” this is a fantastic day for all those taking part in Santa runs across the world and I’m especially pleased that we have just beaten the Liverpool Santa Dash to the title this year. Liverpool has led the way for Festive Fun Running for many years now and we are so pleased to have beaten the best. The competition is what drives the interest between our two great cities and it’s a compliment to all those taking part that in these difficult financial times that so many people can participate and raise so much money for charity! Let’s go again next year Liverpool!!”

This is the eighth year the Liverpool Santa Dash has taken place and just last year the Liverpool event comprehensively beat Las Vegas by more than 2,000 Santas. Although there has been a modest increase this year of just 99 entries it was clearly not enough to beat off the determined challenge of Las Vegas.

Alan Rothwell, Liverpool Santa Dash organiser said… “ I knew from speaking to Linda in recent months that they were going out to win back the World Santa Challenge title and it is disappointing to have lost out after a great performance last year. We will need to show just as much determination next year and bring the SanTaz trophy back to Liverpool in 2012.

I would like to say a massive thank you to all those that made the day the best yet, despite the poor weather conditions. Well done to everyone”.

Santa Dash Collection is from Rapid Hardware, Williamson Square, Liverpool at these times:-
Monday – Friday 9.30am – 5pm
Saturday – 10.00am – 5pm
Sunday – 11.00am – 4pm
Suit Collection will stop at Midday on Saturday 3rd December.

Last year the biggest Festive Fun Run in the U.K. also won the World Santa Challenge title beating the Las Vegas event by a massive 2,000 entries.

An amazing 7,500 Dashing Santas turned out to make it the biggest yet – and in 2011 we expect it to get event bigger!

If you haven’t taken part before then you will simply be amazed at what you witness on 4th December as the Liverpool city centre is transformed into a massive, moving sea of red.

The Liverpool Santa Dash is supporting the Radio City Cash For Kids and Liverpool Echo Liverpool Unites charities this year and we would urge everyone taking part to consider raise just £20 for these fantastic causes.

The event is also being sponsored by Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet and there will be special Santa suit collection weekend arranged for 19th November, so please come along on the day and join in the early season Festive Fun.

(There will also be a pick up point in Liverpool city centre from early November).

Participants can run in The Great Santa Run 5K; walk the 1 mile Kris Kringle Jingle or simply throw on your Santa Suit and come out to enjoy the festivities. Register online to receive your five piece Santa suit provided by Opportunity Village and run for people with intellectual disabilities. Town Square Las Vegas will once again generously host The Las Vegas Great Santa Run. Participants should register online for a pre-registration rate of $35, or $25 for children 12 years of age and under.

“Day of” registration begins at 8 am at Town Square in the front parking lot. “Day of” registration is $45, or $35 for children 12 years of age and under.

The run begins at the main front entrance to Town Square at 10:am. See you there!!!

Please note that once you have entered the Santa Dash it is not possible to provide refunds, deferred entries or transfers to another runner. You take part this event in the knowledge that this is a condition of entry.

You can enter online or download an entry form and send in with your payment. Alternatively you can always call in to the Event Office which is located on the 1st floor at Natterjack Running shop in North John Street.

Race information is normally sent out around three weeks before event date.

A funny anecdote has also been sent in……

Would just like to let you know that Jonathan Lamb and Bob Knowles of Wigan, who were on their 3rd Santa Dash together, had a funny incident this year. Bob Knowles is in a wheelchair and Jonathan pushes him around this course. Bob forgot to put the footplates on his chair this year so after about 3km the wheelchair ran over one of Bobs false legs that had fallen off after Bob caught his heel on the floor! This caused a lot of laughter and a few puzzled faces as Bob reattached his false leg.
A bit further on it fell off again! A tyre also came off when the chair hit a rut and had to be refitted by a helpful passing Santa, so all in all it was a very eventful run this year and an even more memorable one. They are both looking forward to Santa Dash 2011.

Thanks to everyone who made today special.

Over 7,000 Santas turned out in a rather cold but bright Liverpool City Centre and ran for charity.

We now wait for the results from Las Vegas and Tasmania to see who had the most. Thanks to all the volunteers, Police, Red Cross, Marshalls and the brilliant Stiltwalkers who all helped to make the day go smoothly.

World Santa Challenge

With the all new winners of the World Santa Challenge formally announced it is now up to the rest of the world to challenge the Las Vegas Great Santa Run this year. Any city or town, charity or organised Santa Fun Run event can take part although in order to challenge officially you will need to have official World Santa Challenge status.

The 2009 events were close run and the Liverpool Santa Dash fell just short of the massive total 8,868. This year Liverpool will be looking for a 10,000 turnout and will be putting pressure on Las Vegas to retain the WSC title.

Joining The World Santa Challenge

If you would like to join in the World Extravaganza then there will be a fairly simple procedure to follow and details will be listed on the WSC Membership page very soon.

It is clear that in recent years the Santa Fun Run idea has really taken off and by taking part in the 2010 World Santa Challenge you can put your event on a world stage, wherever you are!

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY ENTERED THE 2010 LIVERPOOL SANTA DASH EITHER BY POST OR THE ONLINE FACILITY, RACE PACKS HAVE BEEN PREPARED AND WILL GO OUT 2ND CLASS POST ON MONDAY, 25TH OCTOBER [YESTERDAY].

This means they should arrive by Friday, 29th October. Please be patient, you will receive in good time.
If you are entering in person at JJB Sports, Williamson Square, Liverpool city centre then Santa suits and race T shirts will be available for collection when you enter from Friday, 29th October.
